Important Graduation notice -update August 2021

Following the disappointment that we could not host graduation ceremonies in 2020 and in early 2021, we’re delighted to announce that the University intends to hold in-person graduation ceremonies for students again.

  • Graduation ceremonies for students who have studied via distance or flexible learning courses are scheduled to take place on Monday 28 February and Tuesday 1 March 2022.
  • Graduation ceremonies for our School of Advanced Study and University of London Institute in Paris students are due to take place on 9 December 2021.

We will be sharing more details about these events directly with those who are eligible in the coming months.

Please do not make any travel or accommodation bookings until you have received your formal invitation from the University, we will contact all graduates soon with more details.

We would like to assure all our graduates that the pandemic continues to be kept under review. In any decision made by the University, due consideration will continue to be given to the needs of our graduates and their families, who often have to make complex travel arrangements from around the world to be in London.

The University’s Diploma and Transcripts departments continues to send all graduation diplomas and transcripts, mainly by courier or post, as has been the case in the past.

  • School of Advanced Study and University of London Institute in Paris: Thursday 9 December 2021.

Why can’t you send me an invitation now?

We are still working on the full details of the ceremony, and we will send invitations to all graduates in the coming months with more details on how to book and next steps.

Can I book tickets now?

We advise you to wait until we send a formal invitation to you before making any booking arrangements.

Why have you released dates if you haven't sent invitations?

We are keen to share the dates with our graduates as soon as possible, so that they are aware of our current plans. However, we know that issues such as the pandemic and changing travel restrictions have caused uncertainty over the past 18 months, so we would urge all those who are planning to attend to await a formal invitation from us before making any firm travel plans.

Will I receive an invitation when the ceremony has been rescheduled?

Yes, we will send out an invitation letter via email once all details have been confirmed. This invitation email will contain all the information you will need to make the necessary arrangements to attend.

How will I get a new visa support letter?

As part of the process of booking for the rescheduled graduation ceremony, you will be able to request a new visa support letter, should you need it. You will be able to do this through the booking process for the ceremony.

Can I still defer my graduation until a later date?

If you are unable to attend the rescheduled graduation ceremony, you may request a deferral to the next ceremony and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If you send an email to: universityevents@london.ac.uk with your request for a deferral, we will then add your details to our deferrals list and do our best to accommodate your request.

Can I still receive my certificates if I choose not to attend a forthcoming graduation ceremony?

Your certificates are sent to you by post or courier by the University. The certificate is not presented at the graduation itself.

How much will tickets cost and how many guests can I bring to the graduation ceremony?

We will send out an invitation email once all details have been confirmed. This will contain all the information you will need to make the necessary arrangements to attend, including ticket prices for guests.
